Trans Fats

I'm sure you've heard a lot about trans fats in the news lately. Trans fats can be deadly, not only will avoiding trans fats help with your weight loss goals, avoiding trans fats will improve your overall health and may help you live longer.
For those of you who may not know what trans fats are, I'll give you a brief summary of what to look out for. First of all, read the ingredients labels, don't trust all products that claim '0 grams trans fats per serving', they can legally claim this if they contain a 1/2 gram or less per 'serving'. Their defined serving may be a lot smaller than what most people consume.
So what to look for on the ingredients label: hydrogenated oil or partially hydrogenated oil, shortening, or margarine.
Check back later and we'll talk about how to avoid trans fats in your cooking and baking.
